Shape Architecture Studio is a collaborative practice focused on high-performance, contemporary design. We combine design thinking with building science to create architecture that prioritizes health, comfort, durability, and near-zero energy use. Our work is grounded in listening, collaboration, and careful attention to site and context. Our projects include custom residential homes, ADUs, multifamily housing, and commercial buildings. We are seeking an Architectural Staff II–III to join our team. This role is intended for a designer with approximately 6–8 years of experience (including commercial work) who is ready to take on greater responsibility in project development, consultant coordination, technical execution, and client communication. As a small studio, we value versatility, curiosity, initiative, and a commitment to thoughtful, sustainable design. Responsibility and compensation will be aligned with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate and develop projects from schematic design through construction administrationLead project development and coordination efforts appropriate to experience levelProduce and refine drawings, BIM models, and presentation materialsPrepare permit and construction document setsCoordinate with consultants, engineers, and specialty teamsParticipate in client meetings and presentations (with increasing leadership opportunities)Conduct code research and support permitting strategiesDevelop renderings, diagrams, and presentation materialsAssist with project planning, scheduling, task management, and project coordinationPerform construction administration (RFIs, submittals, site visits, consultant coordination)Contribute to QA/QC and technical consistency across documentsHelp improve office standards, templates, and workflowsSupport and mentor junior staff as opportunities arise

REQUIRED

6+ years of architectural experienceProfessional degree in Architecture (M.Arch preferred)Proficiency in Adobe Creative SuiteExperience with BIM platforms and ability to learn new tools quicklyStrong communication and graphic presentation skillsUnderstanding of building codes, detailing, and construction documentationPassion for sustainable design and high-performanceStrong organization and ability to manage multiple prioritiesSelf-motivated, collaborative, and detail-oriented

PREFERRED

Experience in both commercial / institutional projects and residential project typesExperience in construction administrationExperience coordinating consultants and permit processesFamiliarity with high-performance building standards and building science principlesLicensure or active pursuit of licensureExperience mentoring junior staffExperience leading project teams and client coordinationExperience with Archicad
