About the Department:The NC State University Facilities Division is home to nearly 900 professionals who plan, build, and maintain the spaces that foster an environment where innovation, learning, and community thrive. This position oversees the full design lifecycle of complex and highly technical facilities, including research laboratories, data centers, academic buildings, and multiāuse campus spaces from early planning through design completion and transition to construction. Manage 10-15 informal capital and non-capital projects at a time, overseeing everything from new infrastructure construction to occupied renovations.Ensure all projects are completed within established budgets and timelines while minimizing disruptions to active university operations.Manage projects in a wide variety of facility project types, including classroom buildings, housing, recreational facilities, and highly technical laboratory environments.Lead the selection process for designers and construction managers, including the evaluation of qualifications and technical proposals.Manage contract negotiations and ongoing contract administration to ensure all legal and institutional interests are protected.Act as the primary liaison between the University and State stakeholders to align design goals with institutional needs.Manage projects from inception through all design phases, reviews, and contractor prequalification process, ensuring comprehensive budget and schedule alignment before construction begins.Ensure all capital improvements meet Federal, State, and Local building codes, as well as specific University technical requirements.Provide expertise on complex modifications to the physical educational environment, including infrastructure and specialized systems.Verify that design documents and construction plans reflect high-performance standards and institutional best practices.Anticipate potential project bottlenecks and formulate viable options to resolve issues before they impact the critical path.Create detailed action plans and schedules to achieve project goals with minimal oversight.Effectively manage competing priorities across a varied project load to maintain momentum on high-visibility university initiatives.
