Position Summary

We are seeking a Part-Time Architectural Designer & Project Support Specialist to support residential remodeling, renovation, and addition projects. This role combines design development, drafting, client collaboration, and project support within a fast-paced design-build environment.

The ideal candidate will work closely with our Owner and Lead Designer to develop thoughtful, buildable design solutions — transforming homeowner goals into detailed plans, 3D models, and construction documents. While the primary focus of this position is design, the role also includes participating in client meetings, supporting design decisions, and helping communicate design intent through the construction process.

This is a flexible hybrid position. Much of the work can be completed remotely through video meetings and digital collaboration tools, with occasional site visits, client meetings, and team collaboration sessions throughout Greater Boston and the South Shore.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Drafting

Develop accurate existing-condition drawings, floor plans, elevations, sections, and construction details using Chief Architect.
Create detailed construction drawing sets for residential remodeling, renovations, and addition projects.
Assist with design development, space planning, and creative problem-solving.
Produce 3D models, renderings, and visual presentations to communicate design concepts to clients.
Revise drawings based on client feedback, field conditions, and team input.
Coordinate design information with engineers, consultants, and project team members.
Ensure drawings accurately communicate design intent and construction requirements.

Client & Design Collaboration

Participate in client meetings throughout the design process.
Help present design concepts, drawings, and options to homeowners.
Listen to client goals, priorities, and concerns and help translate them into practical design solutions.
Assist clients in understanding design decisions, layouts, and construction considerations.
Collaborate with the Owner, design team, and project team to develop cohesive project solutions.
Build positive relationships with homeowners and contribute to an exceptional client experience.

Project Support

Attend site visits to document existing conditions and verify field measurements.
Organize and maintain project documentation and design information.
Assist with communication between clients, consultants, vendors, and construction team members.
Support the transition from design into construction by helping communicate design intent and resolve design-related questions.
Assist with tracking design deliverables and keeping projects moving forward.

Qualifications Required

3+ years of residential drafting, architectural design, or residential design experience.
Proficiency in Chief Architect software.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and related tools) and the ability to use construction management software for project communication, documentation, and organization.
Strong understanding of residential construction methods and detailing.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact confidently with homeowners, consultants, and team members.
Strong attention to detail and ability to develop accurate construction documents.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small team.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for occasional local meetings and site visits.

Preferred

Degree or certificate in Architecture, Drafting, Interior Design, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience with residential remodeling, renovations, and additions.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Lumion, or other rendering and design software.
Experience working within a design-build environment.
Strong understanding of residential construction processes.
