Architectural Specification Writer

For our Specification Writer role, we’re looking for someone who understands that great design is supported by the details. You’ll collaborate with our architects, designers, and project teams to develop clear, coordinated, and technically sound specifications that help carry design intent from concept through construction.

We are seeking an experienced Specification Writer to join our growing team. We are considering qualified candidates for either our Raleigh or Charlotte office.

Day to Day Responsibilities

Lead preparation of project manuals and technical specifications across projects of varying size, budget, building type, and delivery method, selecting appropriate formats (full, short form, outline, sheet) based on project requirementsServe as the specifications discipline lead, identifying and resolving conflicts between drawings and specifications and coordinating solutions across architects and engineersSupport projects and contribute to the development and maintenance of Cline specification standards and industry best practices across all service sectorsConduct product and systems research to evaluate materials, vet construction systems, and support specification development across project teamsStay current with building codes, material standards, and emerging construction technologies

What we look for

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline from an accredited universityMinimum of five (5) years of experience as an architect, engineer, or construction professional with a demonstrated focus on specifications, or three (3) years of dedicated experience as an architectural specifierCSI Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certificationStrong knowledge of construction specifications, building systems, materials, construction methods, and manufacturer and supplier appropriatenessCSI Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) certificationExperience with multi-family and mixed-used projects requiredExperience preparing specifications with industry standard tools (e.g., Deltek AIA MasterSpec or equivalent).Revit experience preferredAbility to coordinate within a multi-disciplinary team structure – including engaging virtually with team members in different locationsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to prioritize tasks, handle multiple deadlines, and perform all responsibilities effectively and on time, with a high degree of accuracyAbility to work well both independently and as part of a team
