Architect III
Architect that supports development of design and documentation. At the Architect III level, the individual assumes responsibility for producing portions of design and documentation and may direct junior staff in those assigned areas of responsibility.

Professional degree in Architecture, plus at least eight years of related experience. Participates in the conceptual design and provides full support through the entire project.

Serves as an SME on specialized systems. Liaises with Project Management, other Architects and consultants. Develops and represents the lead technical viewpoint on projects. Project size differentiates this position from the senior level.

Consistently demonstrates working knowledge of conceptual, schematic, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration phases on assigned projects. Architect Level III can convey this information to other internal and external consultant team members.

Fully participates in designated project meetings, both virtual and in-person. Demonstrates proficiency at written communication in email and virtual communication via JCJ virtual meeting software.

Maintains an on‑going vigilance about self‑checking work and conveying questions or concerns to Project team leadership. Participates in the formulation of work and scheduling strategies with JCJ team and adheres to established project schedules.

Adheres to JCJ established conventions for digital file keeping and assists in promoting this practice to project team.

Coordinates work with internal JCJ project team and sub‑consultants.

Consistently demonstrates thorough knowledge of time management skills required to work on multiple projects of all sizes.

Design, Visualization and Space Planning

Consistently demonstrates creativity in design and the ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types.

Consistently understands and embraces the architectural design approach as established by the Project Leadership and demonstrates the ability to integrate interior design with architecture to create a unified statement.

Consistently demonstrates a working knowledge of the conventions of space planning; including proper/legal clearances, awareness of human scale and ergonomics, functional organization and three‑dimensional implications of planning.

Consistently demonstrates a working knowledge of the application of function, price points, lead times and durability of products and systems being recommended for use within projects.

Demonstrates facile computer‑aided visualization skills via multiple software applications to support development and presentation of design concepts. Shares knowledge of these applications with team members.

Researches manufacturers and selects appropriate construction materials, systems, and assemblies from viewpoint of function, client preference, aesthetics and cost; On certain projects, delegates the task to junior staff.

Supports business development activities by creating presentation collateral including digital or physical finish boards, visual slide‑deck presentations. Produces building project documentation from concept through construction documents. Obtains and assembles data to complete drawings. On selected projects, delegates this task to junior staff.

Creates detail drawings for floor, wall and roof assemblies. Develops awareness and application of industry construction best practices. Consistently produces construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect, utilizing architectural graphic conventions of line weight, scale and sheet organization.

Adheres to JCJ conventions for Revit/AutoCAD standards, file and drawing organization.

Performs site observation, including photographic and dimensional notes to document existing conditions; coordinates with Project Team.

Accurately performs numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, device counts, and material quantity take‑offs for budgeting purposes. On certain projects, delegates this task to junior staff.

Consistently demonstrates knowledge about Building, ADA and Life/Fire safety codes, their industry‑wide applications and impact upon space planning. Understands how to interpret applicable local, federal and state accessibility, building and fire codes.

Prepares Code Survey and Code Drawings for project. Understands local zoning review and approval process to assist the PM in all necessary work for compliance.

Actively maintains resource materials and database in physical and digital libraries.

Demonstrates in‑depth knowledge of Materials, Systems and Equipment costs.

Demonstrates complete understanding of manufacturers’ specifications and the creation of the Project Specifications. Contributes information for input into Project Specifications.

Consistently and accurately performs numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, device counts, and material quantity take‑offs for budgeting purposes. Regularly demonstrates ability to make financial recommendations to clients.

Implement cost management strategies in collaboration with Project Leadership.

Answers RFIs and coordinates responses with project team.

Using JCJ software, reviews shop drawings and submittals. Demonstrates ability to effectively file reviewed materials.

Coordinates with construction manager/contractor/procurement client team.

Professional BArch or master’s in architecture.

Training Requirements (Licenses, Programs, or Certificates)

Advanced Computer and Information Management Skills.

Revit, AutoCAD current versions.

MS Office Suite - Excel, Word, MS Project.

3D Rendering capability.

Travel to work sites and other offices may be required.
