BAS Lead Solutions Architect

H.T. Lyons, an HVAC mechanical contractor, is looking for a Building Automation Lead Solutions Architect to join our team in Allentown, PA. This is an advanced technical leadership role within the Controls Organization Career Framework. This position provides system architecture expertise, advanced programming strategy, technical standards leadership, mentorship, and critical escalation support for complex or high-value BAS projects and service situations. This role supports difficult technical issues that exceed normal field execution capability, reviews and advises on BAS network architecture and integration strategy, and helps establish consistent technical standards across the Controls organization. The position provides a senior technical advancement path for employees who wish to continue growing as technical experts without being required to move into traditional people management. Key Responsibilities System Architecture & Technical Strategy - Design, review, and advise on BAS network architecture, controller architecture, system integration strategy, and front-end configuration approach. - Support solution development for complex, high-value, or high-risk projects and service opportunities. - Review technical constraints, integration requirements, network risks, sequence complexity, and operational impacts. Advanced Programming & Integration Leadership - Develop or guide advanced programming strategies, application standards, control logic approaches, and reusable technical methods. - Support integration of multi-vendor BAS systems, HVAC equipment, meters, third-party devices, and enterprise-level monitoring platforms. - Assist with resolution of difficult programming, database, graphic, network, communication, and system-performance issues. Critical Escalation Support - Lead resolution of critical technical escalations that exceed Systems Specialist III or normal field execution capabilities. - Coordinate with manufacturers, factory support, engineering, project leadership, service leadership, customers, and internal stakeholders as needed. - Document technical findings, root causes, corrective actions, lessons learned, and standardization opportunities. Standards, Mentorship & Organizational Development - Establish and refine technical standards, programming templates, commissioning practices, QA/QC procedures, and design guidelines. - Mentor Systems Specialist III personnel and support development of future Lead Solutions Architects and senior technical leaders. - Support training, knowledge transfer, technical documentation, process improvement, and long-term capability development. Safety Compliance - Ensure employees comply with company safety programs, procedures, and expectations. - Verify employee safety training is thorough, complete, and up to date. - Perform safety inspections, identify hazards, and communicate corrective action needs to the safety manager. Qualifications Required - 8–10+ years of BAS, DDC controls, HVAC controls, commissioning, programming, system integration, service escalation, or related technical experience, or equivalent demonstrated capability. - Advanced expertise in HVAC control sequences, BAS architecture, DDC programming, systems integration, network communication, commissioning, and troubleshooting. - Proven ability to resolve critical technical escalations, guide senior specialists, and support complex customer-facing technical situations. - Strong experience with BAS platforms such as Niagara, Distech Controls, Johnson Controls, or similar systems. - Demonstrated ability to create standards, mentor senior staff, communicate with leadership, and support technical decision-making across projects. Preferred - Deep experience with BACnet/IP, BACnet MSTP, Modbus, IP networking, cybersecurity-aware BAS architecture, and multi-vendor integrations. - Experience supporting estimating, preconstruction, design review, sequence review, technical risk evaluation, and high-value project planning. - Experience developing internal standards, reusable technical libraries, commissioning tools, training materials, or quality processes. - Experience coordinating with manufacturers, factory support, IT/network stakeholders,facility teams, and executive-level internal stakeholders.
