Job Title: Civil EngineerJob DescriptionThis Civil Engineer role sits within a full-service architecture and engineering firm and focuses on land and site development projects. You will support a dedicated Civil Team that partners closely with the Architectural group on education, higher education, and commercial projects, as well as work directly with industrial clients on site and land development. You will take basic concepts and ideas through to completion with minimal direction, contribute to both design and field activities, and work efficiently and productively in a collaborative, team-based environment.
ResponsibilitiesPerform site feasibility studies to evaluate development potential and constraints.Conduct site and environmental analyses to inform planning, design, and permitting.Develop schematic site designs that respond to project requirements and site conditions.Coordinate civil engineering systems with architectural, structural, MEP, and other disciplines.Prepare site cost analyses to support project budgeting and decision-making.Lead or contribute to site design development for land and site development projects.Prepare detailed site construction documents, including plans, details, and supporting documentation.Research specifications and materials to ensure appropriate selection for site and civil components.Check and coordinate documents to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment across disciplines.Perform site observation responsibilities during construction, including field documentation and verification of existing conditions.Analyze existing sites and document findings to support design decisions and project planning.Support approximately half of your workload on education, higher education, and commercial projects in collaboration with the Architectural Team.Deliver the remaining portion of your workload on industrial site and land development projects directly with external clients.Work closely with the Civil Department leadership as a key support person, contributing to project delivery and team success.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field.At least 2 years of experience in site and civil design.Experience working with authoritative codes and regulations related to site and land development.Hands-on experience with subsurface utilities design, including sanitary and water systems.Experience with site grading design and analysis.Experience designing storm sewer systems and stormwater management facilities.Experience with land disturbance permitting processes.Possession of an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or active progress toward obtaining the EIT.Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil site and land development design.Ability to perform stormwater, drainage, and grading design using appropriate tools and methods.Ability to take basic design concepts through to completion with minimal supervision.Ability to work efficiently and productively in a team-based, multidisciplinary environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsDesire to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license during your career.Interest in taking on project management responsibilities over time.Experience supporting architectural teams on education, higher education, and commercial projects.Experience delivering industrial site and land development projects directly for external clients.Interest in growing into a right-hand role to Civil Department leadership, with opportunities to develop as both an engineer and project manager.Strong document checking and coordination skills across multiple disciplines.Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, and clients.Work EnvironmentThis role is based in an office located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, working as part of a close-knit Civil Team within a full-service architecture and engineering environment. You will collaborate daily with architectural, structural, MEP, and civil professionals, supporting projects across the country and contributing to a robust backlog of work. The team culture is supportive and collegial, with a strong emphasis on professional growth, mentorship, and long-term career development. Work is primarily office-based, using tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and related civil design software, with periodic visits to project sites for observation, field documentation, and analysis of existing conditions.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Wayne, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
