Construction Manager – Staff Architect

VCI is currently seeking an onsite full-time (8hrs x 5days) Construction Manager / Staff Architect at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center VA Medical Center Campus in Houston, Texas.

Education:

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in architecture from an accredited university and have a minimum of six (6) years’ experience practicing as an Architect in both design and construction period services.

Professional Experience

The successful candidate must have experience in management of facility construction projects including supervision of engineering, design and construction, schedule control, cost management and program budgeting, and overall project management activities. Experience in healthcare projects is preferred. The successful candidate must present three projects of similar scale and difficulty they have managed. An architecture license is not required but desirable.

Salary will be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.

Required Skills and Knowledge

Shall have proficiency in Building and Other Code and permitting requirements, materials and methods and Construction processes.
Shall have the ability to proactively notify the Government of any violations and/or potential impacts of any aspect of risks involved in the project and assist in preparing and updating the risk management plan.
Shall have the capability of reviewing, preparing and making professional recommendations on scope of work documents, submittals and proposed changes.
Must have the capability of determining the value of acceptable work in place. Must take an active part in the Quality Assurance Surveillance Program.
Must be proficient with reading and interpreting construction documents, as well as communicating effectively with project construction team members.
Ability to provide project construction management support and provide decisive directions about business, technical and project management involving multi-disciplinary and diverse functional activities.
Ability to be responsible for the overall management, in terms of technical quality, cost and schedule.
Ability to maintain daily progress reports and inspection reports to ensure timely and effective project oversight for the project.
Ability to walk and work in a construction environment requiring Personal Protection Equipment (PPE): Hard Hat, Protective Shoes, Vest, Glasses, Gloves.
Be proficient with using electronic devices: computer, cell phone and camera.
Be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Be proficient with cloud-based construction document management applications: Procore, Submittal Exchange, Autodesk Forma Build, etc.
Must be familiar with CPM scheduling software: Autodesk Forma Build, P6, MS Project, Oracle Primavera Cloud, etc.
Knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulations, commercial practices and construction standards.
Ability to determine compliance of workmanship, materials, equipment and installed work with contract requirements and industry standards.
Working knowledge and understanding of building, safety, and environmental codes.
The construction project is estimated to be in the $50M range and consists of vertical construction, steel erection, structural foundations, and telecommunications infrastructure construction disciplines: UTP, Fiber, Power, Cooling, etc.
Must be fluent in English.
Must be able to obtain a Federal Government Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card.
Have demonstrable good interpersonal skills.
Must have proof of OSHA 30-hour safety training class or complete a provided OSHA 30 class.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
