Enterprise Application Architect

We are seeking an experienced Application Architect to lead the assessment, modernization, and cloud migration of a custom homegrown enterprise application environment. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in application architecture, cloud transformation, AWS technologies, Java-based applications, Oracle databases, and modernization strategies.

This role will evaluate existing legacy and custom-built applications, develop a comprehensive modernization roadmap, and architect scalable cloud solutions that support business objectives while minimizing operational risk. The successful candidate will collaborate with business stakeholders, development teams, infrastructure teams, and executive leadership to deliver strategic technology recommendations and implementation plans.

This is a hybrid position requiring one day per week onsite in Atlanta, Georgia, with periodic travel to other locations throughout Georgia, including DeKalb County and Forsyth County. This is a one-year contract with the option to renew

Key Responsibilities

Assess and analyze existing custom-developed and legacy applications to determine cloud migration and modernization readinessConduct application portfolio assessments, dependency analysis, and architecture reviewsDevelop application modernization strategies, migration roadmaps, and target-state architecturesCreate enterprise data strategies supporting cloud transformation initiativesDesign and implement cloud-native and hybrid-cloud architectures using AWS services and best practicesRecommend modernization approaches, including rehosting, replatforming, refactoring, and rearchitecting applicationsDefine architecture standards, governance models, and technical guidelines for cloud adoptionDesign integration solutions between on-premises and cloud-based systemsCollaborate with development teams to modernize Java-based applications and servicesArchitect solutions involving Oracle databases, data migration, and data modernization initiativesEvaluate security, scalability, performance, resiliency, and disaster recovery requirementsDevelop technical documentation, architecture diagrams, migration plans, and executive presentationsProvide technical leadership and mentoring to development and engineering teamsSupport cloud migration execution and oversee architecture compliance throughout implementations

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field10+ years of experience in enterprise application architecture and solution design5+ years of experience leading cloud migration and modernization initiativesStrong experience assessing and modernizing custom/homegrown applicationsHands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)Strong expertise in Java application architecture and development frameworkExperience designing and supporting Oracle database solutionsDemonstrated experience creating enterprise data strategies and data architecture roadmapsExperience with hybrid cloud environments and cloud transformation programsKnowledge of microservices architecture, APIs, containerization, and cloud-native developmentStrong understanding of enterprise integration patterns and application lifecycle managementExcellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AssociateExperience with container technologies such as Docker and KubernetesExperience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practicesExperience with application modernization frameworks and cloud migration toolsExperience working within government, public sector, or large enterprise environmentKnowledge of data governance, master data management, and enterprise data architecture
