About the Engagement

Ardor Digital is building a bench of expert consultants to support a large scale, multi year technology modernization program for a Washington State government agency. The program is replacing a legacy, mainframe centric environment made up of more than 100 systems with a modern, cloud first system of systems. This is a part time, contract engagement performed remotely with occasional on site availability as program needs require.

Role Overview

The Enterprise Architect will provide program level architectural leadership, maintaining the overarching enterprise architecture across applications, data, infrastructure, integrations, and security services for a large government modernization program. This role sets architectural direction, leads solution design reviews, and ensures long term sustainability of the target platform.

Key Responsibilities

● Maintain enterprise architecture principles, patterns, and reference models for the program

● Lead solution design reviews to ensure alignment with agency and enterprise IT standards

● Evaluate technology options to identify redundancies, gaps, risks, and modernization opportunities

● Drive cross team alignment across vendors, internal technical groups, and program leadership

● Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint reviews, and architectural checkpoints

● Oversee documentation completeness, including integration diagrams, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and runbooks

● Support knowledge transfer and operational readiness for ongoing maintenance

Required Qualifications

● Bachelor's degree, including coursework equivalent to 12 semesters or 18 quarters in computer science

● Seven or more years of consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in IT analysis, system maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem resolution

● Five or more years of hands on, senior level experience in the discipline described below

● Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to translate technical concepts for non technical stakeholders

● Experience working within complex, multi vendor program environments

● Proven leadership as an Enterprise Architect or similar senior architecture role

● Experience designing end to end architecture for large scale applications and infrastructure

● Working knowledge of microservice architecture, cloud platforms, and modern integration patterns

● Understanding of security architecture principles and secure API patterns

● Solid experience with Java, C#, NodeJS, and/or Python

Preferred Qualifications

● TOGAF certification

● AWS, GCP, or Azure architecture certification

● ITIL certification

● Prior experience within state or local government IT programs

Additional Details

● This is a contract position with an anticipated commitment of approximately 20 hours per week.

● Washington State government experience or experience on large public sector modernization programs is a strong plus.

● Candidates must be able to pass any required background screening prior to accessing client systems or data.
