Lead Project Architect

Position Overview

As a Lead Project Architect, you will transform innovative ideas into functional spaces that people depend on daily. At Cushing Terrell, this role extends beyond mere buildings; it's about designing with creativity, empathy, and intention. You'll steer projects from the initial design concept through to construction, collaborating closely with clients, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure that every detail aligns with performance, sustainability, and long-term value. Focusing on grocery and retail architecture, you will create environments that enhance efficiency, customer experience, technology, and brand storytelling. Your designs will contribute to successful storefronts and operational systems, helping businesses thrive and improving the daily lives of the communities they serve.

Compensation Range: The expected salary range for this position is between $90,000 and $110,000 annually.

Qualifications

NAAB-accredited Bachelor or Master of Architecture degree8+ years of relevant work experience with a demonstrated ability to lead projects, teams, and clientsDeep experience and passion for Grocery and Retail architectureArchitect license/registration is a plus but not requiredResponsibilities

Demonstrated success in managing client relationshipsCapable of overseeing projects from inception to completionManage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with effective time management skillsConsult with clients to determine functional and spatial project requirements, including design, specifications, materials, and estimated costsCollaborate with design leaders and other disciplines to generate preliminary design conceptsConduct project research to inform comprehensive designInspect construction work for compliance with specifications, approving material quality and advising clients and teamsPrepare contract documents for buildersComplete construction cost estimatesProvide code and jurisdictional research for projectsReview project drawings and provide constructive feedbackManage construction contracts, including addenda, substitutions, change orders, and submittal reviewsObserve on-site construction to confirm compliance with contracts and conduct final inspectionsOversee other architectural team members engaged in projectsIf licensed, seal and sign permit documentsMay involve supervisory duties, including training, task assignment, performance reviews, and problem resolutionMaintain strong relationships with both internal and external clientsAbout Cushing Terrell
