Our client is seeking a visionary and highly accomplished Principal Computational Architect to lead the design and implementation of innovative architectural solutions. In this critical role, you will be responsible for developing cutting-edge computational design strategies and workflows that push the boundaries of architectural possibilities. You will collaborate with design teams, engineers, and fabricators to translate complex conceptual designs into buildable realities, leveraging advanced parametric modeling, scripting, and simulation techniques. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of architectural principles, combined with exceptional expertise in computational design software, algorithms, and data structures. You will be instrumental in defining the technological roadmap for computational design within the firm, exploring emerging technologies such as AI-driven design, generative design, and advanced visualization. This position requires a strong analytical and problem-solving skillset, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for innovation. Responsibilities include:
Lead the development and implementation of computational design strategies and workflows. Create and manage complex parametric models and digital environments for architectural projects. Develop custom scripts and algorithms to automate design processes and generate innovative solutions. Conduct performance simulations and analyses (e.g., structural, environmental, energy) to inform design decisions. Collaborate with design teams to integrate computational tools and methodologies into the design process. Explore and pilot emerging technologies in computational design, such as generative design, AI, and VR/AR. Develop and maintain a library of computational design tools, scripts, and components. Provide training and support to design teams on computational design software and techniques. Liaise with external consultants, fabricators, and technology providers to ensure seamless integration of computational solutions. Document and present computational design strategies, methodologies, and project outcomes to internal and external stakeholders. A Master's degree in Architecture, Computational Design, or a related field is required. A minimum of 10 years of experience in architectural design with a significant focus on computational design is essential. Extensive experience with parametric modeling software (e.g., Grasshopper, Dynamo), scripting languages (e.g., Python, C#), and CAD/BIM software (e.g., Revit, Rhino) is mandatory. Proven experience in developing and implementing computational design workflows for large-scale and complex projects is a strong plus. Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools relevant to architecture is highly desirable. Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills are necessary to guide design teams and present complex technical concepts effectively. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong commitment to problem-solving and innovation within an office-based environment. The position is located in Provo, Utah, US .
