Project Architect / Project Manager

Position Summary We are seeking a Project Architect / Project Manager with solid experience in multifamily housing (market-rate and affordable) to lead projects and teams with a high degree of independence.

This role is ideal for someone who is both technically strong and organizationally capable. This candidate can move a project forward, manage staff and consultants, coordinate decisions, and maintain quality without requiring constant oversight.

Because we are a small, entrepreneurial practice, this role requires comfort with responsibility, flexibility, and collaboration across design, technical, and project management functions.

What You’ll Do Project Leadership

Lead multifamily housing projects through multiple phases (feasibility, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and CA as applicable) Manage project scope, schedule, deliverables, and coordination with internal staff and external consultants Serve as a day-to-day project lead and key point of contact for clients, consultants, and collaborators Drive meetings, track action items, and maintain project momentum

Design + Technical Coordination

Translate project goals into coordinated architectural solutions Guide production of drawing sets and specifications with strong attention to quality and constructability Coordinate multidisciplinary consultants (structural, MEP/FP, civil, landscape, energy, etc.) Support code review, zoning review, and permitting submissions Integrate sustainability, resilience, and performance goals into project decisions

Team Management

Manage and mentor junior/intermediate staff on project teams Delegate work effectively and review work product for quality, consistency, and completeness Help establish clear workflows and standards in a mostly remote environment Contribute to a healthy, accountable, collaborative studio culture

Client / Process / Delivery Support

Contribute to early feasibility and planning efforts, including coordination with conceptual estimating and cost-aware design studies Support project strategy across different delivery approaches and collaboration structures Identify risks early and propose practical solutions Help improve internal systems, templates, and project delivery processes as the firm grows

What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications

Professional degree in Architecture 7-10 years of relevant professional experience (flexible for exceptional candidates) Strong experience in multifamily housing, including market-rate and affordable housing Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects and coordinate teams Strong technical knowledge of building systems, detailing, and documentation Experience coordinating consultants and navigating permitting / approval processes Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and visual) Ability to work effectively in a largely remote, self-directed environment

Preferred Qualifications

Registered Architect (or actively pursuing licensure) Experience in New England project contexts (especially Massachusetts) Experience with wood-frame/mid-rise multifamily typologies and mixed-use residential buildings Familiarity with affordable housing requirements, agency review processes, and funding-related design constraints Experience with sustainable design, high-performance buildings, Passive House / PHIUS, or resilience strategies Construction administration experience Comfort with early feasibility studies and cost-informed design decision-making

Software / Tools (Typical)

Revit (required) Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and standard project communication tools Familiarity with Rhino, Enscape, or other visualization tools is a plus Comfort working in cloud-based collaboration environments and remote workflows
