Registered Architect + Public & Private Projects + Opportunity for Firm Leadership

Raleigh, North Carolina

Salary: $85,000–$115,000

Skinner Farlow Kirwan Architecture is looking for an experienced Registered Architect who wants more than simply managing the next project.

We are seeking an architect with approximately 5–10 years of professional experience who enjoys working with clients, leading project teams, solving difficult design and technical problems, and seeing projects through from initial programming to construction.

Just as importantly, we are looking for someone interested in becoming part of the next generation of leadership at our firm.

ABOUT SFK

Founded in Raleigh in 1957, Skinner Farlow Kirwan Architecture has spent nearly 70 years serving public and private clients throughout North Carolina.

Our work includes K-12 schools, higher education, civic and government facilities, healthcare, parks and recreation, and complex renovations of existing buildings.

We are intentionally a smaller, principal-led practice. Our architects aren’t isolated within departments or limited to one phase of a project. They work directly with clients, consultants, contractors and firm principals and have meaningful responsibility throughout the life of a project.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This position is intended for an architect who is ready to take the next step professionally.

The successful candidate will initially lead and manage public and institutional projects while developing client relationships and mentoring younger staff. For the right individual, the position offers an opportunity to assume increasing responsibility in the management and leadership of the firm.

We are particularly interested in someone who wants to help shape the future of an established architectural practice rather than simply fill a position within it.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Lead architectural projects from programming and design through construction.

Work directly with clients and project stakeholders.

Coordinate architectural staff and engineering consultants.

Develop thoughtful, technically sound construction documents.

Participate in design presentations, programming and public meetings.

Manage project schedules, budgets and deliverables.

Mentor developing architects and designers.

Participate increasingly in client development and firm leadership.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Registered Architect.

Approximately 5–10 years of professional architectural experience.

Experience with public, educational, recreational or comparable complex nonresidential projects.

Strong understanding of construction documents, detailing and consultant coordination.

Experience working directly with clients.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Revit proficiency.

Ability to lead a project while remaining engaged in the architecture.

An interest in professional growth and future firm leadership.

Experience with North Carolina public-sector projects, K-12 schools, higher education or government facilities is highly desirable but not required.

We are more interested in finding an exceptional architect with leadership potential than someone whose résumé checks every box. Importantly, we are looking for someone who enjoys the camaraderie of a focused team.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary: $85,000–$115,000, based on experience and demonstrated ability to lead projects and client relationships.

SFK provides:

100% employer-paid employee health insurance

Employer contribution to 401(k)

Employer-paid life insurance

Paid time off

Continuing education and professional development

Support for continued professional growth

Direct access to firm principals and significant client-facing responsibility

WHY SFK?

At many firms, becoming a leader requires waiting for an opening.

At SFK, we’re actively looking for the person who wants to become one.

We’re looking for an architect who values good design, understands the responsibility that comes with working for public clients, enjoys solving complicated problems, and wants their contribution to matter—to the project, to the client and ultimately to the direction of the firm.

If that sounds like the next step you’ve been looking for, we’d like to talk.
