Residential Drafter / Designer

Residential Drafter / Designer
Company Overview
Swank Builders Inc. is a residential remodeling company based in Flint, Michigan, specializing in design-build projects that transform existing homes into functional, beautiful spaces. We partner closely with homeowners to plan, design, and deliver high-quality remodels that fit their lifestyles and budgets.
Our team values professionalism, craftsmanship, and clear communication. We take pride in guiding clients from first idea through final walk-through, and we are building a team of people who care about doing things right the first time.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Residential Drafter / Designer to lead the design and drafting work on our remodeling projects. In this role, you will be the bridge between a homeowner's vision and a buildable plan, using Chief Architect (or similar software) to turn concepts into accurate, constructible designs.
This is a strong next step for someone who understands residential construction and wants more ownership of projects, direct client interaction, and a clear path to grow within a design-build environment. Your work will directly influence project quality, client satisfaction, and company profitability.
What You'll Do

Meet with homeowners to clarify goals, gather measurements, and translate ideas into clear remodeling concepts and project plans.
Create detailed floor plans, elevations, and 3D renderings using Chief Architect (or comparable software) that align with construction methods and building codes.
Develop accurate project estimates, proposals, and contracts that reflect scope, selections, and client expectations.
Collaborate with construction teams to review plans, resolve design questions, and support accurate execution in the field.
Coordinate with the Selections and Allowances Specialist and clients on material choices to balance aesthetics, function, and budget.

What Success Looks Like

Within 3–6 months, you are independently managing the design portion of multiple remodeling projects from initial client meeting through handoff to production.
Homeowners consistently report that they feel guided, heard, and confident through the design process, with clear plans and realistic expectations.
Designs, drawings, and estimates you produce require minimal rework in the field, helping projects stay on schedule and within budget.
You are a go-to partner for the production team, proactively resolving constructability issues and improving our templates, standards, and workflows.

What We're Looking For

Experience in residential remodeling design, drafting, or design-build consulting, with a practical understanding of how homes are built and remodeled.
Working knowledge of residential construction methods, materials, building codes, and design principles.
Proficiency with Chief Architect or similar residential design software, and the ability to produce clear, buildable drawings and 3D presentations.
Strong client-facing communication skills, with the ability to explain options, set expectations, and collaborate with both homeowners and field teams.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour, based on experience, plus profit-sharing and performance-based bonus opportunities.
Benefits include paid holidays, paid vacation, medical insurance, retirement plan, and profit-sharing/bonus programs.
Employment type: Full-time, W-2.
Work hours: Monday–Friday, standard business hours, in-office in Flint, MI with local site visits as needed.
