**Department Summary**

The Design and Project Management (DPM) unit in UCLA Facilities Management oversees multiple complex design-focused projects that include interiors and hardscapes. DPM is a unit of 30 professionals consisting of project managers, construction superintendents, architects, and administrative staff. Client relationships are paramount in ensuring project requirements are met from inception to completion. Key objectives are to ensure that projects stay on track with respect to scope of work, schedule, and budget. DPM is a collaborative business partner that is well versed in communication, leadership, financial and project management, and strategic planning.
**Position Summary**

Under general supervision of the Principal Architect, Design & Project Management (DPM), independently lead project teams, including but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, interior design, vibration, acoustical, civil, and structural disciplines to develop project programs involving all occupancy classifications in University buildings on campus and owned or leased buildings off campus. Lead project teams and DPM staff to develop construction documents for use on deferred maintenance projects, energy conservation projects, laboratory and classroom, as well as other renovations. Provide Computer-Aided Design (CAD) services to the Design & Project Management team. Must be proficient with and possess a deep working knowledge of the California Building Code (CBC). Use working knowledge of the code, the project team, and experience to solve complex problems from the concept phase through project delivery. Functions include every aspect of developing and delivering University projects, including concept, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration for minor and major capital renovations. Presentations will include developing three-dimensional computer-generated models for clients.

**Qualifications**

- Maintain current skill and working knowledge of the following software: Current version of MS Windows, MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Photoshop, Bluebeam, and any other software as necessary to ensure CAD services are as efficient and economical as possible. (Required)
- Ability to install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot computer software used in CAD applications and peripherals.-Ability to retrieve, work on, and save an extensive existing library of CAD drawing files.-Working knowledge of CAD plotting to large format pen and ink-jet plotters and laser printers, using various sizes of roll and cut sheet paper media, including different line weights, fill shades, and scales. (Required)
- Ability to interpret freehand sketches of architectural designs and create CAD drawings in the form of three-dimensional models, two-dimensional floor plans, elevations, and details for construction working drawings. (Required)
- Demonstrated strong oral, written, and graphic communication skills.-Ability to compose/author and present multimedia presentations. (Required)
- For use in presentations, the ability to operate a digital camera and download photos to a computer and manipulate digital photographs to use as backgrounds on computer-generated three-dimensional models. (Required)
- Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures to define objectives or issues; identifying relevant concerns and factors; identifying patterns, tendencies, and relationships; formulating logical and appropriate conclusions; and recognizing alternatives and any implications. (Required)
- Skill in organizing materials, information, and people systematically to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort. (Required)
- Skill in speaking and understanding simple and complex English sentences to communicate and comprehend ideas and/or information.-Ability to make effective oral presentations and to assist groups in determining preferred design solutions, options, actions, etc. (Required)
- Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work promptly when there are changes in workload, changes in assignment, pressures of deadlines, competing requirements, and/or heavy workload.-Skill in performing under the stress of frequent interruptions and/or distractions.-Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. (Required)
- Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and campus clients. (Required)
- Working knowledge of interior and architectural theory and practice. General knowledge of engineering theory and principles as related to construction (structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, acoustical, and civil). Working knowledge of building codes, ADA codes, construction, and building techniques and requirements. Ability to read and comprehend architectural/engineering drawings and specifications. Skill in reading legal and technical documents, contracts, agreements, blueprints, test reports, and product literature. (Required)
- Working knowledge of various UC-approved AI tools to enhance architectural design and expedite project management tasks in a safe, effective, and responsible manner. (Preferred)

**Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations**

- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor’s degree in architecture, urban design, city planning, landscape architecture, or a related field. (Preferred)
- State of California Architect License or having the ability to become licensed within 6 months of the hire date. Current (Required)
