The Role

As the Senior Architect for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), you will spearhead the development of BESS products from initial concept to market launch. This high-profile position is perfect for an engineer who thrives on taking charge of technical direction and shaping system architecture, while aligning cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, launch-ready products.

In this role, you will establish system architecture, guide critical technical choices, and convert product concepts into actionable development plans. Your contributions will be essential in ensuring that our products meet performance, cost, safety, reliability, manufacturability, and time-to-market objectives, thus building the foundation for GM's expanding battery energy storage portfolio.

What You'll Do

Lead the end-to-end development of BESS products from concept to launch.

Translate product concepts into comprehensive system requirements, architectures, and actionable development plans.

Take ownership of system architecture and ensure integration across cells, modules, structures, thermal management, sensing, bussing, electronics, power conversion interfaces, and safety systems.

Drive technical trade-off analyses and engineering decisions that balance various factors including performance, cost, and safety.

Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in manufacturing, validation, supply chain, quality, and program management to ensure products meet quality, cost, and efficiency targets.

Guide designs through development phases with rigorous technical standards and solid evidence of requirement fulfillment.

Serve as the primary technical liaison to leadership for the program.

Proactively identify technical risks, formulate mitigation strategies, and lead resolutions to maintain program timelines.

Benchmark BESS solutions and related industries to discover opportunities for enhancements in architecture and technology.

Contribute to the definition and refinement of BESS engineering processes, tools, standards, and documentation to facilitate future program expansions.

Mentor and cultivate technical talent within the organization.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Demonstrated success in leading technical development for battery energy storage systems or electrified products.

In-depth understanding of BESS subsystems including cells, modules, thermal management, sensing, battery management systems, and safety protocols.

Proven capability to create and implement effective system-level technical strategies.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical topics for leadership and cross-functional teams.

Experience in developing comprehensive product development frameworks and documentation.

Strong track record in mentoring and developing engineering professionals.

Ability to make data-driven decisions grounded in fundamental principles.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

At least 7 years of experience in product engineering.

Compensation: The salary for this role is estimated to range from $134,700 to $207,600, with actual offers depending on factors relevant to the position.
