Senior Architectural Historian (Cultural Resources Lead)

As a Senior Architectural Historian, you will spearhead cultural resources projects across the southeastern United States, with a focus on vital transportation, water, and energy infrastructure initiatives. We are currently seeking cultural resources support for projects in Georgia and Tennessee, and there may be opportunities to lead additional projects throughout the United States.

This role offers you the chance to work on significant projects that require compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and various cultural resource regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.

As the Senior Architectural Historian, you will:

Develop strategic approaches for meeting compliance with cultural resources regulations on complex projects. Collaborate closely with planners, engineers, project managers, and other team members across diverse business sectors. Engage with clients and coordinate consultations with State Historic Preservation Officers, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, Native American tribes, and various state and federal agencies. Prepare proposals and cost estimates while providing technical reviews and guidance to junior and mid-level staff. Mentor team members within the cultural resources group. Qualifications:

Master's degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, Public History, Architecture, or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in historic preservation or a related discipline. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams. Strong ability to read and interpret architecture and engineering plans. Effective oral and written communication skills in English. Willingness to travel approximately 15% of the time. Expertise in all aspects of the Section 106 process, including: Delineating an Area of Potential Effect Initiating consultations with stakeholders Conducting literature reviews and background research Developing historical contexts Organizing and conducting field surveys Making National Register eligibility determinations Preparing Assessment of Effects reports Developing and implementing agreement documents Documenting through the Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record/Historic American Landscape Study In-depth knowledge of environmental procedures for identifying and evaluating historic resources in Georgia and Tennessee, especially with the Georgia and Tennessee Departments of Transportation. Experience working directly with Georgia and Tennessee DOTs and State Historic Preservation Offices. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and maintain responsiveness to internal and external clients. Knowledge of 'recent past' resources, including Ranch houses and mid-twentieth century commercial buildings. Experience in preparing proposals and cost estimates, as well as providing technical reviews of deliverables. Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with NEPA, Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, and Section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act. Section 106 experience with transportation, energy, and water infrastructure projects, including environmental procedures for FHWA, FTA, FRA, FERC, EPA, HUD, and USACE. Working knowledge of GIS and mobile data collection tools like Google Earth and ArcGIS Field Maps. Experience conducting Section 106 evaluations for infrastructure projects in the Southeast, including Georgia, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Kentucky.
