SAIC is seeking a Software Architect to join our team in El Segundo, CA or Colorado Springs, CO.

The Software Architect will work closely with the Principal Engineer to define the platform’s overall design, reference architecture, and supporting demonstrators. This role demands broad technical depth and is well suited to someone experienced across the full stack of large‑scale, deployed systems who can make principled, high‑quality design decisions across diverse technologies.

The MILSATCOM Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (MSEIT) effort provides leading edge Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) for the US Space Force’s Space Systems Center (SSC). We support the Space Force’s acquisition of state-of-the-art satellite communications systems, providing global secure, survivable, and protected communications for our nation’s warfighters. We seek technical individuals who will thrive in a highly collaborative work environment of small teams, using the most modern tools and methodologies to tackle the challenges of integrating complex space and ground communications systems.

Qualifications

Required:

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearanceBachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or equivalent field6 years of applicable experienceDemonstrated experience designing and delivering large‑scale, production‑ready systemsStrong cloud and Kubernetes expertise, including ecosystem tooling and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform, Ansible, or similar)Familiarity with GitOps, secure system design, supply‑chain security, and air‑gapped environmentsStrong understanding of DevSecOps principlesExperience with messaging or event‑streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka).Broad technical capability, able to reason across the stack and make sound architectural trade‑offsExperience with Go, TypeScript, or Java; proficiency with Git workflows, code review, and CI/CDExperience with AI‑assisted and agentic development tools, including safe integration practicesEffective technical communicator able to document and justify architectural decisionsProficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)Desired:

Active Secret (or higher) clearanceExperience supporting government or Department of War (DoW) systemsExperience with MILSATCOM, such as AEHF, EPS, WGS, Protected Tactical SATCOM and COMSATCOMExperience with maintaining software requirements alongside systems engineers, and establishing requirements traceability to capabilitiesExperience integrating DevSecOps principles into software architectureCertifications such as INCOSE CSEP/ESEP

Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
