VCBO Architecture is seeking an experienced Specification Writer to support project teams across the firm. This role is responsible for developing and coordinating architectural specifications, maintaining master specifications, and serving as a technical resource on building materials, products, and construction requirements.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across multiple project teams to produce accurate, coordinated construction documents.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, develop, and coordinate architectural specifications for projects across the firmInterpret architectural drawings and project requirements to develop accurate and coordinated construction specificationsDevelop project-specific requirements using and adapting firm master specificationsMaintain and improve master specifications, standards, and related resourcesResearch building materials, products, systems, industry standards, and manufacturer requirementsAdvise project teams on material and product selection, appropriate applications, and potential alternativesCollaborate with project teams to resolve specification, material, and product-related issues throughout design and constructionCoordinate specifications with drawings and other construction documents to support quality and consistencyServe as a technical resource to project teams and contribute to continuous improvement of the firm's specification practices

Qualifications

Experience developing architectural specifications and construction documentsStrong knowledge of building materials, construction methods, building codes, industry standards, and CSI principlesExperience with large-scale or technically complex architectural projects preferredBachelor's degree in Architecture or a related fieldCertified Construction Specifier (CCS) credential or architectural licensure preferredStrong written and verbal communication, organization, and attention to detailAbility to work independently, support multiple project teams, and manage competing deadlinesProficiency with specification-writing and document review software; experience with SpecLink and Bluebeam preferredWorking knowledge of Revit preferred
