**Your Opportunity**
Our Buildings team in Houston, TX is seeking an enthusiastic Structural Designer to join our engineering team providing design solutions for a variety of building projects. This is an entry-level opportunity for an individual looking to develop their structural design skills while working alongside experienced engineers and designers.
In this role, you will work under the supervision and direction of experienced engineers, supporting the development of structural designs, drawings, models, and project documentation. You will contribute as a team member on projects of varying size and complexity while gaining practical experience with structural systems, building codes, design software, and project delivery.
**Your Key Responsibilities**
* Supports project teams in the development of structural design documentation, plans, models, and reports
* Assists in the development of structural designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, calculations, and other visual formats
* Utilizes BIM technologies to develop three-dimensional models of building structural systems
* Prepares and revises drawings and documentation during various project phases, including floor plans, framing plans, diagrams, sections, and details
* Performs basic structural calculations for building elements and well-defined structural systems under the guidance of experienced engineers
* Assists with coordination of structural designs with architectural and other engineering disciplines
* Assists in the review of shop drawings and submittals and preparation of responses to RFIs
* Assists with site observations and preparation of field observation reports as needed
* Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and external consultants
* Supports project teams with basic cost estimating and value engineering activities
* Applies applicable design standards, building codes, and established engineering practices under the direction of experienced engineers
* Performs other structural design and project support activities as assigned
**Your Capabilities and Credentials**
* Basic understanding of structural engineering and building design principles
* Familiarity with gravity and lateral force-resisting structural systems
* Basic knowledge of structural materials such as steel, concrete, masonry, and wood
* Familiarity with structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes
* Basic understanding of construction drawings and engineering documentation
* Ability to develop and interpret plans, sections, details, and structural models
* Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage assigned tasks to meet project schedules
* Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary project team
* Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
* Experience with Revit is preferred
* Familiarity with AutoCAD, Newforma, RAM Structural System, Tekla Structural Designer, RISA, Enercalc, or similar structural design software is a plus
**Education and Experience**
* Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design Technology, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered\*\*
* 0–3 years of relevant structural design, drafting, or engineering experience\*\*
* Previous internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience involving structural or building design is preferred
* LEED Green Associate or other relevant credentials are a plus
